In Berny’s Words
Berny had a vision for the foundation after his experience. Read about his vision below, then watch the video to hear it in his own words…
“Basically…I don’t know if this can be accomplished but I sure hope it would be my legacy, one of my legacies, to have the physicians in training accept a donation or a scholarship or a foundation where they can have in-services or be taught the human aspect of the practice of medicine. But I always thought it went hand in hand with medical school but it doesn’t. And I’ve learned that……unfortunately it took me to learn that until two weeks ago when I was admitted, but I didn’t see my physician, my prior so-called physician didn’t come to see me for eight days or talk to me or say hello. For eight days. And then only because my kids went and basically grabbed her out of the clinic, and then I got ten minutes. And I don’t despise or dislike the physician for that, in fact she probably saved my life with her academic expertise. But there’s more to it than just a microscope or slides…or an academician putting forth the plan. Yes, that’s critically important. That’s why this place is number one in the world. You get better results doing that. But if you could just meld the human, kindness…generosity…love…compassion.”
“I want the public to know and I want it to be improved. I’m not bitching….well, I’m bitching a little bit. Ha. But there’s a better way, and, unfortunately I think I’m not sure the practice of medicine in the future is headed in that direction but I can make an effort.”
