Purpose
The Foundation’s mission is to change the world of medicine by ensuring medical students learn to treat all patients with professionalism, courtesy and foremost compassion, just like Dr. Rothschild did. He would say “treat the patient, not the paper.”
In 2013, the Foundation established the Dr. Berny Rothschild Award for Compassion in Medicine at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. The annual recipients, chosen by the UTMB Nomination Committee, exemplified Dr. Rothschild’s legacy of compassionate medical practice and vowed to be an instrument of change throughout their medical career.
In 2018, the Foundation became a proud supporter of the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin and established the Dr. Berny Rothschild Foundation Endowed Excellence fund to support and expand some of the school's unique Leading EDGE curriculum centered around Empathetic and Compassionate Care.
